What is this?

Stop telling. Start asking.

Most school leaders were trained to have the answers. They solve problems, set direction, and drive performance through authority and expertise. That works - until it does not. When you are leading a team, a department, or a whole school, the people who grow fastest are the ones who learn to think for themselves. Coaching is how you build that.

This two-day workshop gives you the frameworks, the language, and - crucially - the practice hours to make coaching a natural part of how you lead. Not a technique you add on top. A way of working.

Open to participants of The Leadership Intensive, members of the wider Education Leaders community, and school leaders across Shanghai.

Participant feedback, February 2026

The small cohort. The practical nature. The flexible way the days unfolded. The relevant and actionable techniques. The useful handouts and exercises. The safe space created in the room. Coming away with actions from the practice sessions that I can act on immediately.

Leigh O'Hara Workshop participant, February 2026 · Score: 10/10

The pace of the course is just right - not too intense, but well-structured. We had plenty of opportunities to share and discuss with one another. Shane is an excellent facilitator; he is knowledgeable, well-prepared, and helped create a really positive atmosphere. Happy to be there!

Kathy Liu Workshop participant, February 2026 · Score: 9/10

I really like the whole arrangement and way of teaching which allows us to internalise the skill and try rehearsal to practice.

Workshop participant February 2026 · Score: 9/10

Coaching is the best investment we can make in ourselves. Everyone should have a coach. And if you are looking for a coach, especially internationally, I can highly recommend Shane Leaning.

Freya Odell Head of IB, Brighton College Vietnam

Shane's style of questioning and guidance allowed me to see barriers from a different angle and that there were absolutely solutions within my control. Empathetic, encouraging, yet also pushing me towards the conclusion you knew I was capable of.
